Hermitage Santa Caterina
A jewel of the Province of Varese
One of the most picturesque landscapes of Lake Maggiore
The origin of this jewel embedded in a rock overlooking the waters of Lake Maggiore dates back to the Twelfth century.
A Renaissance portico, a bell tower overlooking the lake and a cycle of frescoes attributed to architect Luini’s son characterize the hermitage,
which is property of the Province of Varese and is reachable on foot, up a stairway, from the lake or using an elevator in the rocks.
