Church Varese

From the Sacro Monte of Varese to the hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, a spiritual path made of artistic and landscape beauties

Church Varese, what to see? This land guards an enviable artistic and cultural heritage that can be seen in its numerous churches.

The XIIIth century collegiate basilica of San Vittore attached to the batipstery, the Madonnina in Prato Sanctuary, the San Antonio alla Motta Church and the one dedicated to St. Joseph, guarding a painting by Procaccini are a few fine examples of the monumental sites that can be found in the Province.

Shrines and temples scattered across this garden city are some of the things to see in Varese. With the great number of parks that surround it, every church in the Sacro Monte is a popular destination for pilgrims protected by Unesco. Then there is the monastery of Torba, which amazes visitors with its semplicity.

Another church in the Varese area that you should visit is the parish of Mombello. A structure of Roman origins that displays frescoes by Giovanni Battista De Avocatis, the same that decorated the hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso in Leggiuno, perching on a rock overlooking the Lake Maggiore. It can be reached by taking the 268 step stair that leads to its panoramic look.
