Luino: from the highlands of Lake Maggiore, passing through Colmegna, to Maccagno
From via Cavallotti, in front of Porto Vecchio dominated by the Madonnina, symbol of Luino, begins the route that enters the old quarter.
By going then through via Pellegrini you reach Piazza S. Francesco where, walking in via Jacobino and then in via Carnella, you get to a magnificent panorama of the city.
A path in the woods leads to the village of Gaggio (354m, 1 hour), Un sentiero nel bosco conduce al villaggio di Gaggio (354 m, 1 ora), and then take the path down to Colmegnino Valley to reach Colmegna (201 m, 30 min, 1.30 h).
Here, running through the lakeside in the direction of Maccagno for 100 m, you come to a bottleneck where you take the path upwards that leads to a house with arches.
Further on you ascends trough vegetable lands and land to Via Castello, here you take the ascent to the right to the road to Dumenza. On the left take via Europa to the last house in the locality of Torretta. A sign indicates the Sasso Cadregone viewpoint. Still in the woods, you walk to Pian Niv, then again uphill until you reach Sasso dei Poncioni (520 m, 1.15 ore, ore 02:45).
The descent, with many panoramic views of the lake, begins with a mule track to the first houses of Maccagno Inferiore (212 m, 45 min;. 3,30 hours).
